Synovi G3 is a nutritional supplement designed to help deal with joint problems, inflammation, and cat arthritis and dog arthritis. Nutritional supplements are often prescribed by vets as a way to try to combat arthritis. Synovi, like many other supplements, relies on glucosamine and chondroitin, two molecules that exist in the bodies of pets naturally. Synovi G3 has a few more nutrients than most of the other supplements: it also includes Omega 3 fatty acids and Vitamin E. A lot of vets have had success using it - not all cats and dogs will show improvement from these kinds of supplements, but a significant number do, and it is well worth it to try one out for a month or two.
You can get Synovi G3 either in chewable tablet form ("soft chews") or as granules that you sprinkle into your pet's food.
How does it work?
Synovi is a joint supplement that works mainly by using glucosamine and chondroitin. These are molecules that occur naturally in the body and Glucosamine is a sugar, and it helps the body form and repair cartilage. Chondroitin is a protein that makes cartilage more elastic. These are both used in many arthritis medicines for people as well. Basically, they help your pet naturally make its joints more healthy and less painful to move by supplementing the molecules the body uses to repair its joints. These are both particularly good for osteoarthritis, which is mainly a problem with cartilage.
Synovi also includes Vitamin E and Omega 3 fatty acids. The Vitamin E and fatty acids are commonly used in treating rheumatoid arthritis, a kind of arthritis caused by an immune system issue that causes inflammation.
Are there side effects?
No - arthritis supplements such as Synovi G3 are composed of things that are in your cat or dog's body anyway. These are also treatments that are commonly used in people. The only reported side effects are minor digestive issues such as indigestion - sometimes the chews or granules do not agree with a particular pet. I have heard about allergic reactions in people to glucosamine in people with seafood allergies (because it is gathered from shellfish in many cases). However, I haven't found anything suggesting this can happen in pets.
Where can I get it?
For cats, you can get the Synovi feline granules (the stuff you mix into your cat's food) online here:
For dogs, you can get the Synovi canine granules online here:
You can get the soft chews for both cats and dogs online here (it's the same chewables for both):
